Miyu is an easy going daydreamer. Introverted and non-confrontational, Miyu flows through life much like her beloved water, taking the easiest course. Teachers find her lack of drive frustrating, the only class she excels at is potion brewing, although it is most likely linked to her passion for tea… Miyu is an only child from a highly regarded, wealthy family. She has a habit of falling asleep anywhere, even in class. Her familiar is a mischievous blue crocodile named Swampy, who has a bad habit of sweet treat snatching. Miyu can speak with aquatic animals and can often be found relaxing in the academy pond whispering to them, this is why she is vegan. If awake and not in the pond, or brewing tea, Miyu will be doodling or spending time with Freya.

Freya is a scholarship student in the third year of the Broomsayer Witchling Academy. Studious and ambitious, Freya is top of most classes. She spends many hours studying and for a fee, tutors others. Freya is the eldest of four, raised solely for the last seven years by her “Paps.” She is the first of her family to attend a private school and dreams of finishing with the highest grades in academy history. Freya is extremely proud of her appearance, she has a preference for wearing black. Her familiar is a black cat named Jet. When an outburst of anger from Freya ignited the classroom it sparked an unexpected friendship with Miyu. Miyu doused the fire but caused a flood, resulting in shared detentions for a month.

Cornelia (aka Nelly)

Optimistic, outgoing Nelly is from a traditional witch family with an older sister already graduated from the academy. Nelly learned historic remedies, age old customs and the foundations of fortune telling from her dear grandmother. Kindhearted and personable, Nelly is loyal to her friends and is always there to provide them with cheer or advice, the latter usually unsolicited. Teachers are divided into love her or loath her camps as although Nelly is enthusiastic, mayhem often unintentionally follows. She enjoys wearing conventional witch garbs, loving pointy hats and aprons. Her flying broomstick acts as an unusual familiar, unfortunately, Nelly has no sense of direction or common sense and ends up lost every time she uses It. Nelly sells love potions, but hasn’t perfected the recipe.

Opal

The great niece of the Broomsayers Witchling academy head teacher, Opal feels the weight of being an exemplary student from her classmates and tutors. Due to this perception she is fearful of doing anything wrong. This has made her shy and self conscious, sometimes she cannot even answer the register in case she says the wrong thing. Spending time with carefree Nelly has helped her explore new things and start to enjoy life a little more. If overwhelmed, Miyu calms her with personalised relaxing tea blends. Opal was scared of Freya but has recently started studying with the fiery witchling and is beginning to understand her. Opal believes in horoscopes and wont leave her dorm room without consulting it. At night she sneaks outside to stargaze alone. Making small keepsakes from fabric brings her joy.

The Witches

Marion (aka Ms. Withers)

Hobbies: Relaxing after work in The Cat and Pumpkin with a good bourbon, writing and reciting poetry, collecting vintage trinkets.

Favourite Colours: Purple and grey
Favourite animal: Deer
Dislikes: Overly sweet food, windy days and cheap shoes.

Marion has a relaxed personality but can be stern, especially when she is not being taken seriously. She cannot see very far without her glasses, even though this could be fixed with magic, she doesn’t want to take the risk. She spends most of her free time in The Cat and Pumpkin, a cozy nearby pub. Nestled in a large armchair by the fire she writes prose and when it is open mic night she passionately shares her musings. Marion enjoys chatting with the regulars and staff, she has become close friends with the bartenders Astrid and Pinki.

Astrid

Hobbies: Playing broomstick hockey, watching sports, inventing jokes.
Special Ability: Knowing exactly what drink to mix to satisfy even the fussiest taste.

Dislikes: Having to work on match days, books about history and waking up early.

Astrid works part time in The Cat & Pumpkin pub. She attended Broomsayer Witchling Academy achieving head Witchling status in her last year. She passed all her exams but was not interested in perusing further education. Instead she focused on earning a place in a semiprofessional broomstick hockey team. Astrid is charismatic and naturally witty, regulars enjoy engaging in her banter. She has almost endless energy and carries out all her duties with speed. and accuracy. Astrid has the power to know exactly what someone is craving and will whip up bespoke drinks for customers. Management were annoyed at first, but after gaining so many positive reviews the pub advertises her ability as a unique selling point.

Pinki

Age: 25

Hobbies: Looking for kawaii clothing, collecting fairytale books, playing the horn of harmony
Special ability: Can sing up a storm when upset. Her hair also changes its shade of Pink according to the temperature.

Dislikes: Horror stories, unhappy endings, being called a witch.

Pinki tries to live in her own fantasy land where everything is cute, cuddly, pink and fluffy. She adores fairytales and has a large collection of books on the subject. Due to the negative connotations a witch has from these tales, she gets incredibly grumpy if someone refers to her as a witch and will protest she is an enchantress. She is a talented horn of harmony player an ability she has used several times when things at The Cat and Pumpkin have gotten rowdy. Pinki loves dressing in kawaii styles but finds the lack of clothing made in her size frustrating. Pinki is good with people, she loves making them smile, however, if someone upsets her they better watch out as she can hone her anger or sadness into a song that can create a nasty storm right above their head.

The Cat

Coco

Dislikes: Rain, snow, cold weather, her tail being pulled and being woken from naps

Coco was the Broomsayer Witchling Academy cat, a pupil turned her human in an attempt to find out some of the Academy’s secrets, however Coco couldn’t tell them anything as she could only meow. The head teacher was furious and tried to change Coco back but because she wanted to stay human it didn’t work. Coco is the official pest controller for the Academy, although she is too lazy to do her job preferring to nap in sunny spots or watch birds. She is still learning about being human, the students enjoy dressing her is different outfits and distracting her with bubbles or pieces of string. Her ears and tail have a tendency of appearing when stressed, excited or relaxed, students find this trait adorable but Coco must find it frustrating.
